TEMPORARY EXHIBITION: A Story of Trash

Explorations

Published 24.03.2026

The Luxembourg Science Center has teamed up with the Luxembourg Center of Circular Economy (LCCE) to present a new temporary exhibition.

  • Co-funded by the ROTARY HORIZON Club, Luxembourg

A STORY OF TRASH: “Beyond Consumption”

This temporary exhibition offers an interactive and captivating journey through waste, environmental challenges, and the presentation of circular solutions.

The importance of the two cycles—biological and technological—is also highlighted.

  • In the biological cycle, organic matter can decompose and reintegrate into ecosystems.
  • In the technological cycle, materials are transformed, reused, and recycled at a high level of quality.

Through objects, installations, and explanatory displays, the tour highlights the consequences of the linear design of our products, which turn into waste without planning for high-quality resource preservation. The exhibition thus invites visitors to better understand the impacts of this system and to consider practices that are more consistent with the functioning of biological and technical systems.

Two new interactive stations:

As part of this exhibition, our teams have designed two interactive stations that will later be permanently added to the Science Center’s exploration hall.

The "Shoe Grinder": The objective of this station is to reveal the ubiquity of microplastics resulting from the mechanical abrasion of soles and tires. By making this everyday wear-and-tear phenomenon visible, it illustrates how our movements transform synthetic materials into microscopic particles that permeate the air, soil, and aquatic ecosystems over the long term. The station thus raises public awareness about the toxicity of these residues for biodiversity and human health, while encouraging reflection on the design of less polluting materials to limit this major source of environmental contamination.

The "Sorting Station": The goal of this station is to raise user awareness regarding the ecological importance of recycling and the preservation of natural resources. Through this practical exercise, visitors can understand the direct impact of correct sorting on reducing pollution and saving energy.

“It’s better to reuse than to consume”: a principle that encourages us to extend the lifespan of objects and to make our consumption habits part of more sustainable cycles.

Whether you’re an expert or simply interested in the environment, waste, recycling, and various solutions, come visit the LSC and its temporary exhibition, open from April 11 to October 31, 2026—open to the general public.

Please note that admission to the temporary exhibition is included in the Luxembourg Science Center entrance ticket, as is access to our large exploration hall (over 100 interactive stations) and science shows (for ages 6 and up).
