CULTURE MEETS SCIENCE – 1st EDITION (Nov 7 & 8, 2026)

Explorations Projects

Published 23.10.2026

For an entire weekend (November 7 and 8, 2026), the Luxembourg Science Center will play host to a unique encounter between art and science!

For this very first edition, “Culture meets Science” brings together artists, researchers, and science communicators around a rich program of shows, workshops, performances, and talks for all ages.

Listen to mathematics at the heart of a musical chord, experience a sound performance beneath the planetarium dome, trick your senses in the kitchen, create a glowing fluorescent galaxy, or watch a machine draw a complex shape from simple rules…

Let your curiosity lead the way!

Shows, Talks, and Performances (Limited Availability)

  • Science Show – Acoustics: Discover the invisible world of sound! Vibrations, frequencies, resonance, and surprising patterns… Our science communicators bring speakers, tuning forks, and everyday objects to life for a lively, hands-on demonstration of how acoustics shapes the world around us.
  • Science Show – Astrophotography: How do you photograph a galaxy millions of light-years away? Join our communicators as they reveal the secrets of night photography: exposure times, image stacking, filters, and a generous dose of patience. A show for anyone who has ever looked up at the night sky and wished they could capture a piece of it to take home.
  • Science Show – Planetarium: Music and Stars: In the afternoon, our planetarium hosts an all-new experience. A science communicator and a musician share the stage set to the rhythm of the night sky unfolding above you. Nebulae, galaxies, the slow drift of the stars… The music, composed and performed live, echoes the visuals appearing on the dome. A unique performance! (Advance booking is strongly recommended)
  • Performance – “Mathemusics”: Can music be calculated? How many variations of a melody can be created from just a few notes? In this original performance by Lucilin, melodies, rhythms, and harmonies unfold through the hidden mathematics that structure them behind the scenes.
  • Talk – “Mathematical Art: Between Intuition and Logic”: While mathematics is often viewed as a purely logical field, it can also be approached through intuition when interwoven with art. Matías Gárate guides you through his own works alongside historical examples.
  • Talk / Science Slam – “Who Is Speaking? The Hidden Mechanics of Conversation”: Join Jean-Marie Nau, PhD candidate at the University of Luxembourg, for a fun, interactive group challenge centered on speaking, sharing ideas, and collective decision-making. A presentation inspired by his doctoral research into collective inquiry and decision-making in Baháʼí consultation.

PLEASE NOTE: Access to the shows, talk, and performances is strictly reserved for children aged 6 and older. However, other activities and workshops have been specially designed for younger children. Thank you for your understanding.

Workshops and Activities

  • Workshop – Fluorescent Galaxies and Nebulae: Create your own piece of the Universe using fluorescent fibers, then turn off the lights to watch it glow! A creative workshop to explore fluorescence, light, and the colors of the cosmos. (Sunday, November 8 only / Ages 12+ / Conducted in German.)
  • Workshop – Tricking Your Senses in the Kitchen: Step into the shoes of a flavor researcher and let your eyes, nose, ears, and tongue be fooled through a series of delicious experiments. (Conducted in French only)
  • Plotter Area – Patterns Born from Simple Rules: A small pen plotter, a sheet of paper, and a handful of very simple instructions. Pick a rule, repeat a shape, rotate it slightly, connect the dots in order, or let a line extend the previous one… Then watch the machine do the rest!

Book your tickets online now and secure your spot at the heart of this unique encounter between art and science!

Please note: To ensure as many people as possible can enjoy the program, you may pre-book one show or talk per person. On the day of the event, you will be able to join additional sessions at no extra charge, subject to availability.

For those who prefer a more spontaneous visit, tickets will also be available for purchase at the Luxembourg Science Center reception desk. Don't miss this exceptional first edition—join us on November 7 and 8, 2026, for a weekend of wonder, creativity, and discovery!
