ESERO LUXEMBOURG: Project Manager – Programme Coordinator (Freelance)

ESERO Luxembourg is a nationally coordinated educational initiative supported by the European Space Agency (ESA), the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA), and the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth. Its mission is to support teachers and educators in integrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) into their teaching practices by leveraging the inspiring context of space.

Key activities include practical teacher training, interactive student research projects, and inspiring space competitions.

The project is hosted by the Luxembourg Science Center in Differdange and brings together a diverse ecosystem of institutional, educational, scientific, and industry stakeholders. To further strengthen the governance and development of the programme, we are looking for an experienced part-time freelance National Project Manager.

MISSIONEN

Your main responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall planning, coordination, and monitoring of the ESERO Luxembourg programme, ensuring the successful delivery of objectives, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Contribute to the definition of the annual work plan, project priorities, and budget in alignment with the expectations of ESA, LSA, the Ministry of National Education, and the Luxembourg Science Center.
  • Monitor project performance through the definition and tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring impact measurement and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee budget execution and financial monitoring across all project activities, ensuring compliance with funding and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and coordinate the project's semi-annual narrative and financial reports for key stakeholders and funding partners.
  • Organise and facilitate regular operational meetings as well as biannual Steering Committee meetings involving the project's governance bodies and partner organisations.
  • Manage relationships with national and international stakeholders, including educational institutions, public authorities, scientific organisations, industrial partners, and funding bodies.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain strategic partnerships that strengthen the visibility, reach, and impact of ESERO Luxembourg.
  • Represent ESERO Luxembourg at ESA, ESERO network, and other national and international events, fostering collaboration and sharing best practices.
  • Identify potential risks, opportunities, and improvement initiatives, and proactively propose mitigation or development actions to the Steering Committee.
  • Act as the primary coordination point between project partners, ensuring effective communication, alignment of expectations, and timely decision-making.

PROFIL

  • You hold a university Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field and have a minimum of five years of proven experience in leading and coordinating large-scale projects from conception to implementation.
  • A university Bachelor's degree may also be considered if complemented by substantial relevant professional experience (more than 10 years). A degree in science, technology, education, project management, or a related field would be an asset.
  • You have a demonstrated track record of managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects involving multiple partners, suppliers, institutions, or funding bodies. You are experienced in planning, coordinating and monitoring project activities, budgets, timelines, risks, and deliverables while ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • You are comfortable interacting with and presenting to senior stakeholders, including public authorities, institutional partners, sponsors, board members, and subject matter experts. You possess excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills and can effectively navigate diverse interests and expectations.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. You are capable of working independently while fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Experience in educational, scientific, public engagement, innovation, or European-funded projects would be considered a strong asset.
  • You speak English fluently. French, German, and/or Luxembourgish would be considered an asset.
  • You have a strong interest in science communication and, in particular, in the field of space.
